Our Facilities

The Waitahanui Lodge is all about the real kiwi beach experience.
Although improvements have been made to ensure a more comfortable holiday, the 1950's character
of the original lodge remains. We want all our guests to relax and feel "at home" while staying with us and treat
our place as their own Taupo Bach for the duration of their stay..

The Rooms

We have 5 stand alone cottages that sleep from 3 to 5 guests. Two cottages are absolute waterfront, while the other three are only metres away from the lake. Some have their own private courtyard with kitchen garden. Each cottage is self catering and comes with a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, lounge and separate bathroom. All bedding and towels are supplied. In total the lodge can accommodate 21 people. For information and photos of each cottage, go to the Rooms page.

The Lodge Shop

The Lodge Shop is open 7 days a week in summer and stocks fishing tackle and licences for lake and river fishing. We also have fly rods and waders for hire. We can get you going on your own or arrange a professional fishing guide.

Internet

Free wireless internet available in all rooms.

Laundry

There is a guest laundry with washing machine and dryer. Each cottage also has its own clothes drying rack.

Fish Cleaning

For those who come here to fish, we have a trout cleaning area and extra fridge/freezer for storing the trout until you go home.

Platters & Grazing Tables

Sharing has never been more on-trend and platters and grazing tables are now available. A scrumptious platter for two, or a grazing table for that special occasion. Enquire for pricing when booking with us.

Boating, Sailing and Paddle-Boarding

Our lake frontage and private boat ramp give you the ideal opportunity to enjoy all lake activities - fishing, water skiing, windsurfing, sailing and swimming. New to the lodge are paddle boards. Rowboat, kayaks, boogie boards and paddleboards are all free for our guests to use.

Barbeque Area with the Million Dollar View

We are not kidding! Our huge paved patio right on the lake shore with outdoor furniture and umbrellas provide the setting for a fantastic summer barbecue. Guests can sit and enjoy the incredible sunsets we are privileged to see.

The Boiler Room

Named as the Boiler room as this is where we light the boiler to heat the water for part of the lodge. Its a rustic outdoor room, all under cover, where guests can turn on the stereo, play darts, cook a barbecue and generally have a great time. There are a few old lounge chairs as well as table and chairs where you can get together and have a meal or a few drinks.

Continental Breakfasts

Now available. A scrumptious mix of Muesli, yogurt, orange juice, wholemeal & grain and/or white bread, spreads, cubed butter, milk and coffee . Delivered to your room the night before. Order on arrival or email us 🙂

It's my 3rd or 4th time back there and even though it is about 10min from Taupo town, we love being ose to the lake and obviously the company of Bron and Anthony! Great fun HAVING Anthony bring my kids out of the boat and what a catch of 4 trouts which was smoked for our dinner.

Loved our stay here. We got one of the cabins right next to the lake. Definitely worth the extra cost! Amazing sunsets over the lake and can walk out the back door onto the beach.

Was super lucky to win a mother's day competition and have the pleasure of staying in one of the lakeside cottages with my mum. The views are stunning, the platter delicious and the hosts were awesome. We will definitely be back to stay again and highly recommend others doing so

I have been going to Waitahanui Lodge since 1977 and every time I stay there it only gets better. The lodge is conveniently located right on the lake and to one of the best fly-fishing streams in the world. The affordable self-contained rooms are in excellent condition and has all the amenities you need for your holiday. In addition, the lodge has a little fishing tackle shop onsite in case you need to hire any gear or purchase some extra tackle. But the best thing about our stay at Waitahanui Lodge was the amazing people who run the lodge, Bron and Anthony. Their hospitality was above and beyond our expectations. The fishing was excellent, and we managed to take home 12 decent sized trout with us. Love this place!

About Us

During the 1920’s, ex Englishman Fred Fletcher made many trips across to Taupo from the Hawkes Bay to fish for rainbow trout and dreamed of one day building a fishing and hunting lodge.
